Ambition

At Parklands, we provide a broad and challenging curriculum that we hope will inspire our children through plentiful opportunities to establish passions and future interests. Part of this includes a Design and Technology curriculum that allows children to develop their problem solving whilst imagining, designing and building new and exciting products. Design and technology is crucial to our intent of ‘Fun, Creativity and Achievement’ as it embodies all three. ‘Fun’ because it’s a practical lesson that builds their confidence as individuals, a team member and leader. ‘Creativity’ because the possibilities are endless when they’re innovating to solve real-life problems in a variety of contexts. Finally, ‘Achievement’ because each project results in a real, physical product that represents their learning journey and all the obstacles and successes they experienced along the way.

How we achieve our ambitions

In order for our children to gain the best learning experience, our Design and Technology (DT) curriculum has been written and structured to build year on year, utilising previous knowledge and skills to support their current learning. Each year group has a clear overview of the skills and knowledge to teach, each of which are broken down into the key processes used in DT:

  • Developing, planning and communicating ideas
  • Working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products
  • Evaluating processes and products

As part of the exceptional learning experiences provided at Preston Hedge’s, our children work with an artist-in-residence to produce outstanding, large-scale pieces of work for their learning environment, as well as their classroom-based DT learning.

Our children are also taught progressive cookery key skills and knowledge to help promote their development of vital life skills and their understanding of health and wellbeing; giving them the best start in life.

Outcomes

Through a variety of creative and practical activities built on a foundation of progressive skills and knowledge, our children develop their creativity and innovative thinking. Our curriculum and exceptional experiences provide opportunities for our children to develop passions and interests in the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to design, make and evaluate effectively. We aim for our children to leave primary school equipped with the skills and passion for an ever increasingly technological world and for them to greet it with confidence and enthusiasm.

“We are committed to providing the very best teaching and learning experiences, which inspire and challenge pupils to demonstrate exceptional outcomes…”
