ATTENDANCE

Why Attendance Matters

At Parklands, we believe that every school day counts. Regular attendance gives your child the best possible chance to learn, grow socially, and achieve their full potential. Missing just a few days can quickly add up and affect their learning progress.

95% attendance = 10 days missed per year
90% attendance = 4 weeks missed per year

Children with poor attendance can struggle with gaps in their learning, friendships, and confidence. We want to ensure that our children receive the very best support by being in school every day, enabling them to feel a strong sense of belonging to their class and to our school.

Attendance Expectations

We expect all pupils to aim for at least 96% attendance. This means fewer than 7 days of absence over the whole school year.

  • School starts at 8:45 am, where children will engage with early morning work.
  • Registers close at 8:55 am – after this, your child will be marked as late.

Reporting Absences

If your child is ill or unable to attend school.

  • Please call the school office by 8:45 am on the first day of absence: 01604 491769
  • Or email: kate.clark@parklandsprimary.org
  • Provide your child’s name, class, and the reason for absence.

Note: If we don’t hear from you, we’ll contact you to ensure your child is safe.

Medical & Other Appointments

We ask that you make medical, dental or other appointments outside of school hours wherever possible. If your child must leave during the school day, please inform the school in advance and provide evidence of the appointment.

Holidays During Term Time

Holidays during term time are not allowed, except in exceptional circumstances. Unauthorised absences may result in a penalty notice (fine) issued by the local authority.

To request a leave of absence, please complete a form from the school office.

Support for Families

We understand that sometimes attendance can be challenging. If you’re having difficulties getting your child to school, we’re here to help and will do all we can to support you and your child to ensure they have positive school attendance.

Please contact our school office to speak to a member of our Attendance Team for support:
