DESIGN &
TECHNOLOGY

AMBITION

We teach a broad and challenging curriculum aimed at inspiring our children through plentiful opportunities to establish passions and future interests.

A key part of this includes a Design and Technology curriculum which allows children to develop their problem solving while imagining, designing and building new and exciting products.

Design and Technology truly embodies all three areas of our vision of Fun, Creativity and Achievement.

It is Fun because it is a practical lesson that builds pupils’ confidence as individuals, team members and leaders. It displays Creativity because the possibilities are endless when children are innovating to solve real-life problems in a variety of contexts. And finally, it embodies Achievement because each project results in a real, physical product that represents a child’s learning journey and all the obstacles and successes they experienced along the way.

IMPLEMENTATION

For children to gain the best learning experience, our Design and Technology curriculum has been written and structured to build year-on-year, using previous knowledge and skills to support current learning.

Each year group has a clear overview of the skills and knowledge to teach, each of which are broken down into the key processes used in Design and Technology:

  • Developing, planning and communicating ideas
  • Working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products
  • Evaluating processes and products

As part of the exceptional learning experiences our children work with an artist-in-residence to produce outstanding, large-scale pieces of work for their learning environment, as well as their classroom-based DT learning. Our children are also taught progressive cookery key skills and knowledge to help promote their development of vital life skills and their understanding of health and wellbeing, giving them the best start in life.

IMPACT

Through a variety of creative and practical activities built on a foundation of progressive skills and knowledge, our children develop their creativity and innovative thinking.

Our curriculum and exceptional experiences provide opportunities for our children to develop passions and interests in the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to design, make and evaluate effectively.

We aim for our children to leave primary school equipped with the skills and passion for an ever increasingly technological world and for them to greet it with confidence and enthusiasm.

OUR VISION
& ETHOS
